The purpose of life is to give it away.”When it comes to her art, Tiffany Choonghas similar convictions about its purpose.“The intention of my art is to bring joyand celebrate life by giving a voice to nature and wildlifeand shining light on certain topics to create enlighteningconversations.”Adds the Penang-based artist: “I feel like I have grownin confidence and I am grateful that I am still able to pursuethis journey. The adage ‘life is a marathon, not a sprint’ reallyholds true for artists. It takes a lot of time, dedication andcommitment to endure the course, and the course at timesfeels like a treasure hunt with the lights off. Having a visionand purpose has helped me to stay focused and motivated.”As a child, Choong’s ambition was to be a ‘hippietraveller’. She recalls with a laugh: “I didn’t know at that timethat it wasn’t considered a career. I saw all these backpackersarriving in Penang, and I wanted to do the same thing - travelthe world!”She may be all grown-up now, but Choong’s free-spiritedpersona and wanderlust cravings remain unabated. In 2019alone, she managed to visit Singapore, Portugal, Britain andGermany. “In September 2019, I attended the launch ofFear Not by Dublin’s popular poet Stephen James Smith atthe Embassy of Ireland in London. I am over the moon thattwo of my illustrations were included in his book.
